Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing

As part of the recent ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’, the Thomson FM team embraced the theme of “Wellbeing Through Nature“.

Thomson FM Office Manager, Rebeka Kay, explains,

“As a business, the mental health and wellbeing of all members of our team is a crucial focus for us. This has been particularly so since the coronavirus pandemic, with more remote working during that time and the day to day pressures that lockdown has caused.

As our trained Mental Health First Aider, I was keen for us to be involved in the Mental Health Awareness Week, to reiterate some of the key wellbeing messages and also to have a bit of fun.

To coincide with the theme of ‘Wellbeing Through Nature’, all members of the team were issued with a plant pot and sunflower seeds. They have now planted the seeds and through our TFM What’s App group, we are updating each other on how we are all getting on in growing our sunflowers and sharing some green fingered advice!”

As well as the message of mental health through nature and nurture, team members have also been encouraged to take at least 30 minutes away from their laptop each day to go for a walk and to appreciate the nature around them.

As Rebeka adds, “Scientific studies have shown that exposure to nature not only improves our mental health, it also contributes to our wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension and the production of stress hormones.”

In addition to the nature activities, Thomson FM have also made a donation to the mental health charity, “Mind” to support their valuable work.
